A Chat With Christina Hendricks on the Making of Joan’s Mad Men Strut

Of all the people in the front row at fashion week so far, Christina Hendricks had the most giggles and the creamiest skin. At first we couldn’t tell if it was her or a 16-year-old tastemaker, but the voice confirmed it. The Mad Men actress showed up to the Honor show in a bubblegum pink dress that was SUCH a Mad Men look. Everybody wants Joan’s swagger, so with that on the brain, we asked Hendricks what she wishes she had of Joan’s.

“I wish I had her confidence,” she said with a mischievous smile.

How did she come up with Joan’s signature strut?

“I think it was that… you put on that tight dress and you put on all those undergarments and things and your body just sort of does it,” Hendricks said. “and the first scene that I had with her, she was sort of marching around the office and being very presentational, and it seemed to suit her. I just did it.”

The final season of Mad Men airs this April, and obviously she’s not filling anyone at fashion week in on how this epic bonkfest turns out, but she was generous enough to cough up her own dreams for her character.

“Well, I love Joan and Roger together. As messed up of a relationship and dysfunctional as it is, I do love them together. So yeah. I’d like to see that.”
