Why Did Someone Write an Article on How to Talk to Women with Headphones On?

In an article published by The Modern Man, a writer had the nerve to suggest tips to men on how to talk to women even if they have their headphones on. Honestly, I couldn’t believe that someone wrote about this but it’s really true. There’s really no excuse for people thinking that this kind of article can be published, but more and more I find myself feeling like society is okay with women being disrespected and treated poorly.

When I think of Leslie Jones and all she has had to go through, when I think of all the ridicule that curve women have to face everyday, and then some man writes a piece on how to get women’s attention because he deserves it? It completely pushed me over the edge. I listen to headphones for various reasons while commuting–sometimes I just want to zone out, sometimes it’s out of habit, and yes sometimes I just don’t want to be bothered which is my right. Saying things like, “However, if a woman wearing headphones is single and hoping to meet a boyfriend (or even a new lover), she will usually be happy to take off her headphones to give you an opportunity to create a spark with her.” Not even close buddy.

Don’t approach me while I am wearing headphones because I have a very strong startle reflex and might scream in your face, not even kidding

Can someone write an article on the best way for me to wrap my headphones around the neck of the bloke that thinks waving in my face is OK?

Women understand if someone is trying to talk to them. Advising men to wave their hands “in her direct line of vision so she can’t ignore it,” would be a huge mistake. Especially if it happened to me because I would be offended and would likely snap. It’s cringing to read this kind of point of view, and what scares me is that this kind of story has become a topic of conversation for me.

Fortunately for me, I’m not the only woman who feels this way.
