Ronda Rousey has had to deal with her fair share of body image issues in the spotlight–remember when she instagrammed a photo of herself on television, not knowing someone had photoshopped her body in the picture? And even though she apologized, and it wasn’t her fault in the slightest, it’s still sad that society wanted her so badly to look a certain way that the altered image was shared more times on social media than the actual image itself.
Now as the new face of Buffalo Denim, Ronda is taking a stand on body image and encouraging women to make the decision to feel good about themselves, even if others don’t approve. In an interview with SELF she said, “I was confident enough in every area except for my looks. I wish that when I was younger I knew how pretty I was because I had no clue, and it made me feel very sad. I know how pretty I am now, and it makes me happy. It’s not like I suddenly became pretty, it just took time to realize it.”
Rousey’s journey of self-acceptance and positivity is also prevalent in campaign for Buffalo Denim called HOPE that’s made to fit a range of body types in all different styles. She added, “We don’t see supermodels walking around in clothes and everyone else streaking. So, you have to show clothes being worn in a way that the customer can relate to, and that’s something I think we really conveyed in this Buffalo campaign. That enhancing and embracing whatever curves your body type has is a good thing!” Girl looks good, and we’re happy to see that she’s in a more positive space of mind now.
