Sometimes, we need a break from the mundane, and what better way than taking well-deserved vacay? Though it’s only February, there is no time like the present to start planning your next 2017 adventure. If stylish locales is what the doctor ordered, I’ve got five sartorially gifted places around the globe that will have you itching to grab that plane ticket:
Mexico City,Mexico: The DF, as locals call it (short for Distrito Federal) is a bustling metropolis that’s anything but ordinary. Some must-sees include the neighborhoods of Colonia Condesa and Colonia Roma, as they are home to chic hotels, mouth watering restaurants, and swanky spots. Polanco, one of the city’s poshest districts, offers an array of household designers, as well as local boutiques like Sandra Weil, Yakampot, and Common People. If art is more your thing, check out Frida Kahlo’s colorful home in Coyoacan, or her husband Diego Rivera’s murals at the Palace of Fine Arts.
Marrakech, Morocco: Morocco’s ‘Red City’ is the perfect place for the fashionable traveler with a penchant for boho styles. It offers everything from incredible shops and souks in the Medina (open markets), to desert adventures, and even an ultra luxurious spa experience at Hotel Mamounia, which is a favorite among celebrities and jet setters. French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent often vacationed here, and his home is one of Moroccos’s treasured tourist attractions complete with a beautiful (and very Instagrammable) garden known as Jardin Majorelle.
Cartagena, Colombia: Hands down, Cartagena is one of Colombia’s hottest cities and a perfect weekend getaway destination. Its colorful streets, complete with colonial architecture and a warm Caribbean feel, give this place lots of charm. Expect plenty of beachy styles from local brand A la mar, and Colombian-born fashion designer Silvia Tcherassi has a magnificent hotel inside a 250-year-old mansion worth checking out. If you are looking for special keepsakes, visit Mercedes Salazar’s showroom for statement jewelry and pick up a ‘mochila’ bag from the Wayuu Tribe.
Sydney, Australia: With popular labels like as Alice McCall and Zimmermann, and a Fashion Week that keeps on growing, no wonder down under is getting a lot of buzz when it comes to style. Their laid back approach to fashion, combined with beautiful sights like Sydney Harbor and Elizabeth Bay, make Australia’s biggest city a magnet for cool girl style. Aussie gals are all about the teenie bikini, and Triangl, Bondi Bather, and Seafolly abound on the popular beaches of Bondi and Manly.
Berlin, Germany: Germany’s capital is quickly gaining a reputation for its fashion scene, as many designers come here for inspiration from its history, art scene, and minimalist tendencies. There are plenty of local gems hidden around residential buildings, and be sure to peruse the vintage shops in Prenzlauer Berg such as Soeur and visit Kreuzberg’s Turkish markets, outdoor cafes, and concept stores like Voo, which offers a roster of established designers like Kenzo, Marni, and Helmut Lang, as well lines from Goetze and MALAIKARAISS. Fun Fact: Berlin is known for killer sunglasses and frames, so make sure to grab a few before heading home.
