All of us have been there. You have a beauty emergency and time is running out. You don’t have time to run to the store and you are limited to what you have inside your home. What do you do? You may be surprised to learn that there are many great beauty uses for household products that work. To help you think outside the box, check out these amazing unconventional beauty hacks.
Dry Shampoo
Are your locks greasy and you don’t have the time to wash your hair? It’s okay. We have all been there!
Cheesecloth: All you need is a cheesecloth and a wide bristle brush to remove dirt and oil from your hair. Take the cheesecloth, wrap it around your bristle hair brush and then brush out your hair. Presto!
Cornstarch or Arrowroot Powder: Apply powder to the roots and the oily parts of your hair with your hands or an old makeup brush. Bonus tip, if you have any essential oils, put a few drops of the oil into the powder and mix well with a spoon.
Oatmeal and Baking Soda: Take one cup of baking soda and mix it together with a cup of ground oatmeal. Keep it sealed in a container so you can use it when you need a handy way to remove oil from your hair. Apply the mixture to your roots and then brush it out.
Cornmeal and Salt: Mix together a ½ cup of cornmeal with one tablespoon of salt. Place the mixture into a salt or pepper shaker. When your hair is greasy and dirty, just sprinkle some on your roots and brush it out!
Baby Powder: Baby powder is one of the oldest tricks in the book. When your trestles are greasy and dirty, you can take baby powder and rub it directly on your roots. Some also mix baby powder with baking soda, so you can take your pick.
Have dark hair? To combat the “white” look, mix unsweetened cocoa powder into your powder.
Moisturizer
Feeling like a snake, and your favorite body butter bottle is empty? Don’t stress, improvise!
Oil: Many people have olive, avocado, almond, and coconut oil in their home. Use these natural oils to help keep your skin healthy and moisturized. If you want “scented lotion”, simply mix a few drops of essential oil into the oil.
Avocado, Honey, and Vinegar: Smash up an avocado and mix it with a few drops of vinegar and a small amount of honey. Let the mixture sit on your skin and wash off after 15-20 minutes.
Oats and Yogurt: Dairy products act like a natural moisturizer. Clean and moisturize your skin by mixing together a combination of yogurt and ground oats.
Under Eye Bag Remover
Don’t let puffy eyes get you down. Refresh and improvise.
Green Tea: If you have bags and puffiness under your eyes, don’t toss that green tea bag after your cup of tea. Instead use cold green tea bags and place them gently over your eyes to help decrease puffiness.
Metal Spoon: If you need a simple way to combat puffiness, place a metal spoon into the refrigerator and once cold, place it over your eyes to fight off puffiness.
Preparation-H: Don’t be ashamed if you have this laying around your home. If you want to see under eye baggage disappear, dab some under your eye and watch those bags disappear.
Acne Remover
Pimples and blemishes are the bane of our existence. But don’t worry, you got this.
Toothpaste: When you are in a pinch use some of your trusty toothpaste to banish pimples and blemishes!
Aspirin: Take one pill and crush it into a powder. Place a few drops of water into the powder and mix to make a paste. Take the paste and place it on your pimple, let it sit for five minutes and then rinse!
Cinnamon: Need a delicious way to fight zits? Mix a little bit of honey with cinnamon and let it sit on your pimple. Don’t feel bad if you find yourself taste testing the batch!
Face Wash
There is no excuse for a dirty face. Stay fresh and clean with these unconventional methods.
Olive or Coconut Oil: Need to wash off the day’s grime? You can use olive oil or coconut oil to effectively remove your makeup and clean your face. Best part? You don’t have to apply moisturizer afterward!
Yogurt: Massage a thin layer of plain yogurt onto your face using your fingertips. Leave on your face for 5-10 minutes and then wash off with warm water.
Apple Cider Vinegar: Mix two parts water with one part apple cider vinegar and shake well. Apply to face with a cotton pad or ball.
Lemon and Honey: Mix together one teaspoon lemon juice with two teaspoons of honey. Warm up with your fingers and then apply a thin layer to your face and neck. Once the mixture dries on your face, rinse with warm water.
