We’re all guilty!  At one time or another we’ve been too tired to take off our makeup and wind up just going to sleep. But is sleeping with makeup on really that bad? Yes, yes it is. And I’ll tell you three reasons why.

1.Wrinkles

At night, our skin, just like sleep, works on a circadian rhythm pattern. This means that at night our skin’s most important function is to renew itself. When you go to bed with dirt from the environment throughout the day and a full face of makeup you are preventing the renewal process, causing major damage to the skin, not to mention all that pollution and gunk you’re carrying into bed. Yuck! Free radicals from the environment cause collagen to breakdown over time, resulting in wrinkles and fine lines. To clean your skin first cleanse with a facial wipe like Milk Makeup’s Micellar Water Makeup Remover Wipes to lift impurities then use Origins Checks and Balances Frothy Facial Wash to refresh and deep clean pores.

2. Clogged pores create breakouts

It is true, clogged pores create breakouts. They may not appear after one night of sleeping in your makeup, but over time your skin will become so polluted that breakouts and even acne can become problematic

3. Dull skin

If you’ve been experiencing dull, blah skin it may be because you are not cleansing properly at night. Oils and dead skin cells build up on the outer layer of the skin after being slept in on a regular basis. Over time this diminishes the natural turnover of cells increasing dull skin tone. To prevent this, add a gentle skin exfoliator to your regimen to brighten it up and slough away dead skin. Try Caudalie Deep Cleansing Exfoliator.

I know just the thought of the skin cleansing process at the end of a long day can be laborious, but you are doing yourself and your skin such a disservice by not thoroughly cleaning it before bedtime. If you’re super tired at least use a cleansing wipe for a quick fix and if you’re up to up fully cleaning your skin use a cleanser to deep clean. Trust me, your skin will thank you later!
