If you’re a self-identified fashionista who keeps up with all of the latest trends, or you embrace individuality and march to the beat of your own drum, chances are that you have a few statement pieces in your wardrobe that you can’t live without. From the cute dress you got when you traveled last summer to the handbag you scored at a local thrift store, you get that happy feeling when you break your statement piece out.

No matter how much you love these pieces, one thing is true: they don’t always come together to make an entire outfit. They need a little bit of assistance, and that’s where wardrobe basics come into play. While wardrobe basics may not have the potential to stop passersby in their tracks, they’re always there when we need them most: to be the perfect complement to our favorite statement pieces. So make sure you always have what you need on hand.

One of my favorites is neutral colored tees. This piece of clothing looks absolutely great with everything from skinny jeans to pencil skirts. A little black dress is just one of those items we all have or at least should. You could dress it up for the office with a sophisticated blazer, go for a spunky and chic look by pairing it with patterned leggings and a beanie, or wear it as the perfect backdrop for that sparkly new jewelry you just got. There are countless options, making it the perfect blank slate.

Don’t forget to finish off your look, it all comes down to accessories.  These little gems can take an outfit from blah to wow in 5 seconds.  With these staples in your wardrobe, you’ll have all of the elements you need to create countless head-turning styles. Get shopping so you can make your own statement.
