Celine Dion has been through a hell of a lot over this past year, with the passing of both her husband and her brother. Even so, she is back to work doing what she has always been passionate about, and we admire her determination and commitment to her art.
Apparently not everyone is focused on her strength. This week Radar Online reported on Dion’s alleged “extreme weight loss.” According to the site, a friend of Celine said that her work schedule is packed, and that she pushes through because she believes that she is doing what her late husband would have wanted. Apparently the friend claims Celine has lost seven pounds, and that she is naturally a workaholic whose husband was always there to stop her from exhausting herself with a busy schedule.
First of all, Dion’s weight is none of our business, and it never has been. Beyond that, at a time when a person is going through drastic life changes, physical changes in the person’s body are probably bound to happen, and are not newsworthy. Out of respect and appreciation for Celine, why don’t we talk about her beautiful music? Why don’t we see her dedication to her work and the passion she puts into her art as a positive thing? Perhaps that is even therapeutic to her during a painful year. Who are we to scrutinize or criticize the way in which a person reacts to a tragedy, or the way her body reacts to a tragedy? Celine is beautiful no matter what. It is never ok to criticize a person’s body, so why in the world would we do it at a time when we know that person has endured a tragedy?
