Honestly, I felt really bad for everyone else that had to perform last night after the VMA’s. To have to perform the same night as Beyonce basically means that you know you’re going into the championship against someone you know is better than you and has a 99.99% chance of winning, but you still have to go and play the game. I’m happy for Rihanna and she deserved the Vanguard award, but man oh man MTV should have made Beyonce go last because there was just no way to top that performance. And poor Britney Spears! She didn’t have a chance picking up Beyonce’s leftovers. Scroll down below to recap some of the best moments of the night.
You know when you’re a child and it’s totally normal for you to wear an $11K Mischka Aoki dress on the red carpet with your mom? Yeah I don’t know either, but Blue Ivy does! They both went for a dramatic ice-queen look, Beyonce’s was custom Francesco Scognamiglio and I completely loved all of it. Drama, couture, sequins, give me more!
If you’re going to bring an entourage let it be people like Chloe x Halle, and the mothers of Oscar Grant, Eric Garner, Sybrina Fulton, Trayvon Martin, and Mike Brown. Nobody does an award show like Beyonce, and no one brings real life issues to the forefront at award shows like she does.
The moment of truth, when the queen of the earth aka Beyonce stepped out on stage. Is that a fur cape? And the hat? And the white dress ensemble like an angel? It’s all too much for me. And as someone who attended the show, the minute people even got a glimpse of her they went wild.
Of course she did multiple changes, I mean would you expect anything less? I loved this performance so much because it was really all about blackness. Who else is going to give you tons of black women dancing in African hairstyles, showing off their curves? She continues to bring an experience that you simply can’t get anywhere else and her lace Ralph & Russo leotard was perfection.
Her first after performance change was an Elie Saab sequined jumpsuit and cape with a mesh, see-through panel and chandelier earrings. I love the drama of this look, and how the nude perfectly matches her skin tone. No plain black jumpsuits here! This is a jumpsuit that a winner wears.
Finale look for when she wore a white Yolan Cris gown, that feels similar to a lot of things she has worn before since she regularly wears wedding gowns. It’s an interesting choice to wear wedding gowns as award show pieces, but hey Beyonce is a celebration on her own so might as well go all out.
