Attention all New Jersey drivers: You might want to glue your hands on the wheel at 10 and 2 instead of having a coffee or makeup brush in them.
Distracted driving is an issue everywhere, and so many little things can distract a driver. Hey, even changing the radio station can be distracting.
Really, you just have to learn how to multitask and be careful at the same time. If you know you’re not going to be able to focus on the road and put on lipstick at the same time, don’t do it! You’re not only putting yourself at harm, you’re putting your passengers and other drivers and pedestrians at harm.
Yes, the whole sip of coffee thing sounds extreme, but maybe that’s what will get people to finally listen and pay attention on the road. It would really suck to hear, “Oh, I got in a car accident because the other driver was putting on eye shadow and crashed into me.” Sounds like something that may cause some Sephora-based lawsuits, and we cannot have that. Our chocolate palettes mean too much.
It shouldn’t take a bill to turn people into more cautious drivers, but if that’s what it takes to prevent more accidents, then I guess here’s to waking up a tiny bit earlier and putting on makeup and drinking coffee at home.
