Airport? Relax? Riiight.
I think that’s how a lot of us feel, because airports aren’t exactly relaxing. They’re stressful, frustrating and sometimes even infuriating. A majority of the time, things are out of your hands, such as with a delayed or canceled flight.
So if your Delta flight is grounded today or if you’re just waiting on your flight, try these six simple things to relax and de-stress.
1. Catch up on the news
First, if you’re stuck at the airport you probably want to know why and for how long. If it’s because of weather, just check in on the weather once in a while. It helps to remember that you’ll want to check it for the city you’re currently in, the city you’re going to, and the cities in between to see if there are any major weather patterns. Delays/canceled flights due to weather sucks, but you really can’t help it so there’s no use stressing about a storm. Just be sure you’re informed. Second, if you’re stuck because of some other issue, you should really check up on the news. For example, the grounded Delta flights. Staying in-the-know will help you and your loved ones feel a lot more calm about the situation you’re in.
2. Read for fun
The news isn’t exactly light reading. Most of the time, reading the news isn’t always something that cheers you up. Do you remember the last time you read for fun? Whether you crack open a novel or your favorite magazine, be sure you’re entertained. This will help take your mind off of things.
3. Mani/pedi/massage
Treat yourself to a manicure, pedicure and/or massage. Why? Because you deserve it. My favorite: Getting a mani and pedi in a massage chair.
4. Explore
Depending on how big of an airport you’re in and what types of shops/restaurants there are, go explore. This is a great way to find souvenirs, shop for yourself, and stretch your legs.
5. Catch some Zzz’s
If you need to get some beauty sleep, get yourself a neck pillow and curl up at your gate. Be sure to set an alarm! You want to make sure you give yourself enough time to wake up and change gates or run to the restroom before your boarding time.
6. Unwind with a drink
Whether you want a glass of wine, jug of juice or cup of coffee, sipping on something might just calm your nerves.
Airports are a hassle, but you don’t have to get all worked up and mad when you’re there. Be the calm one that everyone envies.
