Fit is often the one thing that deters curvy women from buying things online and even in stores. Just because it looks good on the model, doesn’t mean it’s going to hug you the same. It can really be one of the most frustrating things about buying clothes because it’s supposed to be fun, but can often end up being a challenge.
With that in mind, Chicago entrepreneur, Christina Marshall-Valdez started her company, Elu, that’s an online based company that makes custom order dresses for all sizes. In an interview with Crain’s Chicago she said, “I’m a very proud size 26. That is on the high end of the spectrum in terms of what’s typically in plus-size retailers. A lot of retailers stop at a size 18 or 20.”
The brand launched in June but is steadily gaining popularity because the dresses are super chic, and they’re the kind of pieces that you would want to have in your closet. While the price point is higher than a fast-fashion retailer, keep in mind, these dresses are custom. Plus, why wouldn’t you want to support another woman starting a business?
The website and shopping experience seem to be very interactive, with shoppers having the ability to ask questions and enter specific dimensions or style requests. It’s all about giving the curve woman exactly what she wants–from the hemline, the color, the neckline, the sleeve length and fit, and everything in between. If you want to support, Elu is seeking to raise more funds for production and has a Kickstarter campaign going that ends August 31st.
