We previously reported on the news that Miss USA was changing it policies of using the swimwear portion to judge models since it promotes a certain type of ideal body aesthetic and not overall health and wellness. Now we’ve been able to get a first look at what the change will be: athleisure.
By teaming up with fitness brand Tapout, The Miss Universe Organization will provide athletic outfits for contestants to wear, creating a special collaboration capsule just for the competition. Each contestant will have a different outfit, with their state name and symbol on it.
We’re happy to see this change and hope that it will bring about a more body inclusive awareness to the competition. As we saw at last year’s, Ashley Graham made sure to give a shout out to all the curve girls there, and hoped to keep the swimsuit competition and just add more curve women, but either way, here’s hoping this is a step in that direction.
