When scrolling through Instagram I happened to stumble upon Jazzmyne’s profile—a beautiful young woman, with great style so I was automatically interested. A friend had tagged me in a photo of hers since I love all things fashion and am always interested in women with different takes on fashion.
When I continued to scroll down, I noticed this image with the caption “For the past 20 years I’ve told myself I am not “good enough” to wear a bikini to the beach. With help of my confidence queen, @dayshaveronica, I went out and wore this because I don’t have to limit myself to just “plus-size high-waist swim suits.” And I immediately teared up because there really is nothing more beautiful than seeing a woman of color empowered, happy, and curvy in today’s times.
Jazzmyne went on to say, “I went through a hard time of eating disorders and therapists and really getting down on myself. I feel like I have it ingrained in my head that I’m not supposed to wear a bikini.” And in sharing her story, people reacted in an incredibly positive way, with women of all sizes cheering her on and saying “you go girl!” and my personal favorite “screw what anyone says you are slaying in that bikini!” And because of that support, I noticed that Jazzmyne has even posted another bikini selfie. We all know there is no such thing as bikini body ready and it’s about time we celebrate women feeling good and looking good just the way they are. Slay Jazzmyne!
