An Overjoyed Groom Who Is Proud Of His Curvy Bride Is Something We Don’t See Enough

Wedding shopping while curvy is a territory that is so scary, if all women had to go through it they would probably quit and want to give up immediately. Especially if you love fashion, there are so few options out there for women who don’t fit into sample sizes. But to make matters worse, there is also a huge stigma when people see a man excited to marry a curvy woman—I often find myself wondering why people are so judgmental of other people’s choices and even media outlets calling the couple “complete opposites” as if we know the couple and their personalities and how compatible they are.

When it's real. It's real.???????? Captured by @oneclickphotos. Picture via @instablog9ja. #africansweetheartweddings #prewedding #nigerianwedding

Today Star FM Online, a Ghanaian news site, published a story about a groom named Kwaku Obeng Adeji, because he posted a picture of him and his bride, and commenters seemed to have problems with her being a size 16. To me, the photos show a happy, overjoyed couple, loving life and each other, being excited for their upcoming nuptials. To negative haters out there it seemed like “his choice of wife was awkward” according to Star FM Online.

Luckily the groom stepped in and noted that he could not have made a better choice of a bride and added, “I normally post pictures of me and my girlfriend all the time, and I wasn’t expecting this at all. I just posted it, we did a photo shoot and I thought it was nice so I posted it. To me, I have always been a fan of plus size women so I am proud of my woman and I don’t care what anybody says out there. In every society there are people who will try to discourage you from things that you seek to do but I am not bothered at all.” A wedding is stressful enough with planning and making your family happy, so how about leave the body shaming out of this one?
