Amy Schumer’s career as a comedian and actress is constantly on the up, but she’s also making a case to become a body activist. After her controversy with Glamour Magazine including her in their curve-friendly publication without her approval, she’s taken the opportunity to shed light on some of the industry’s biases and make sure her fans know that she is in fact, a woman with flaws like the rest of us.
In a recent Instagram post she said, “I mean to write good morning trolls! I hope you find some joy in your lives today in a human interaction and not just in writing unkind things to a stranger you’ve never met who triggers something in you that makes you feel powerless and alone. This is how I look. I feel happy. I think I look strong and healthy and also like miss trunchbull from Matilda. Kisses!” And while the jokes may have some critics disagreeing with the light nature of her post, I think it’s healthy to discuss body shaming and acceptance in a whatever way feels most comfortable—and for Amy that’s through comedy.
The saying misery loves company is especially true when it comes to the Internet and commenters who feel like they have the right to weigh in on someone else’s body and the choices they make. We’ve seen it time and time again, women having to defend their own bodies, livelihood and babies because of what people think is ‘appropriate’ or ‘healthy’. Your move trolls.
