The Met Gala is like prom for the fashion world—all of the big designers spend months designing, re-designing and praying that by the last fitting, the dress will be perfect. Celebrities are carefully chosen by the Vogue Magazine team, based on a lot of superficial things such as fame, popularity, looks and connections but every now and then there is a fantastic moment with a celebrity who we didn’t expect who absolutely kills it.
In the recent years, though the guest list hasn’t changed much, we’re hoping that maybe, just maybe Anna will loosen the reigns a bit and consider some women who don’t resemble THAT ideal. Scroll down below to see my picks for 8 women who deserve to show up and show out on Monday.
Adele
This is an obvious choice—she’s got collaboration with Burberry, they’re dressing her for her tour, she is a superstar, and she always looks flawless.
Ashley Graham
After she did Vogue’s denim video and was the only curvy girl included, it showed that they at least acknowledged her presence and like her. Maybe they like her enough to have her at the Met Gala? We will just have to wait and see.
Ava DuVernay
She’s the hottest director and producer in the game right now, and unapologetically feminist. She has the Hollywood credentials to go the Met gala, so we think she would be a shoe-in.
Beth Ditto
She’s walked at Jean Paul Gaultier, and been a muse for countless couture designers. And after her runway walk at Marc Jacobs last fall, she’s a contender.
Christina Hendricks
Even though Mad Men is over, Christina Hendricks is still a favorite on the red carpet. She’s sexy, got the curves of a goddess and has great style.
Danielle Brooks
Her current stint in The Color Purple and Orange is the New Black, have catapulted her to fame. She wears Christian Siriano on practically every red carpet and her recent collaboration with Lane Bryant has solidified her interest in the fashion world.
Gabourey Sidibe
She’s on the hit show Empire, she’s got a makeup line capsule with Covergirl, and she’s been in Oscar winning movies for years. She’s not someone people look to when they think of fashion, but we’re hoping to see that change.
Melissa McCarthy
There’s no question that Melissa McCarthy is a winner when it comes to box office sales—her movies sell in the high millions in comparison to the flocks of model/wannabe actresses that are usually on the guest list at the Met Gala. She should be strongly considered.
