In a fast paced world, it can be hard to slow down and appreciate the little moments, especially if you have negative people around you trying to drain the happiness from every experience. Ignoring bitter and negative people is definitely easier said than done but your happiness hangs in the balance. Check out the list below to see why you should never let the bitterness of others impact you and what you can do to fight back.

You Control Yourself
The simple fact of life is that occasionally you’re going to run into people who just aren’t that pleasant to be around. There’s people who are negative just for the sake of being negative and their bad attitude tends to suck good energy out of any situation. You have to remember that you can’t control the actions of other people, you can only control yourself and how you respond to them. You won’t always be able to take control of a situation but you are the one thing that is always within your control. Parasites need a host to survive, once you stop feeding negative energy it’s possible that whoever is bringing it may just leave.

You Can Turn the Tide

Negative energy feeds more negative energy, refusing to play into that emotion may help others change their perspective too. By being the bigger person in a situation and refusing to feed negativity you can be just what another person needs to get their mind back on track. Sometimes all it takes it one person to turn the tide and change the emotional energy of a situation. If you figure out why you may be doubting yourself or feeling negative about a certain aspect of your life, quickly realize that being able to tackle these feelings is a huge step in finding growth and personal strength in your life, ultimately leading to an improved amount of happiness. Be the good energy that you want to see in the world and lead by example. Your happiness may just be infectious.

Life is Short

This is a phrase that we hear more often than we realize, it’s still true even though it’s totally cliché. Life really is too short to let other people steal your good moments. You have to get your happiness wherever you can find it and cling to it. Whether it’s something simple like enjoying the breeze on a nice day or a big event like having a baby you have to allow yourself to fully bask in the positive energy that comes from these moments. Every second you can spend with a smile on your face is time well spent. Eat that candy bar. Watch the sunset. Let yourself enjoy every moment you can while it lasts.

You Worked for It

Whether or not you believe it happiness is something we make. Happiness is a choice. We choose to work for the things that bring positivity to your life. When your actions finally pay off you deserve to fully enjoy that moment. You earned that promotion. You should be allowed to bask in the joy from that as long as possible. Energy vampires are people who love to feed off of others, leaving them feeling drained and miserable. Be careful who you invite into your life. Put a barrier around your happiness that indisputably screams “positive vibes only”.

People Love to See You Fail

Maybe spite isn’t the best motivator but enjoying things just because others don’t want you to is another reason not to let the bitterness of other people impact you. The truth is there are always going to be people out there just waiting to see you lose it. These bitter people hide in the shadows waiting for the right time to strike — there’s really nothing they would love more than to see you fail. Don’t give them the satisfaction of feeding off your misery. Make it your goal to enjoy yourself as much as possible. Bitter people really can’t stand to see you happy and successful.

You’re Worth It
Sometimes it’s easy to let other people steal your happiness because you don’t think you deserve it. That little voice in your head telling you that you shouldn’t be happy is wrong — you are worth joy. You deserve love and happiness. Fight for your happy moments because you’re worth it. Learn to value yourself and accept only what you deserve. Take time to acknowledge the good in your life. Give yourself a reminder of why you are valuable and unique. There’s no one else in the world exactly like you and that’s definitely worth celebrating. Bitterness doesn’t deserve a space in your life.

Energy vampires come in all forms and sometimes it can be hard to get rid of them. Remember that you are worth the effort of cleansing your life from negativity. Your happiness belongs to you and no one has a right to taint or steal it. Bitter people will always exist, you just have to make the choice to be above that and enjoy yourself no matter what other people try to bring your way.
