Ashley Graham‘s awe-inducing Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover is still getting some undeserved attention and body-shaming. Former South Derbyshire Member of Parliament, Edwina Currie had some choice words to say about Graham and curvy models.
On BBC Breakfast, Currie was shown a photograph of Ashley Graham and the body shaming game started. Currie, claimed to not have any idea who Graham was, even though she’s the hottest thing on the planet right now, and proceeded to say “whether it’s attractive or not it’s unhealthy. And what you’re doing, if you’re that sort of size and I’m not as slim as I should be, is you’re heading for diabetes, which is awful.” That’s a lot to gather from one fierce photograph.
Probably, just as tired of the body shaming comments as the rest of us, fellow curvy model Bishamber Das fired back. According to Derby Telegraph Das the heroine said, “I think its really irresponsible for Edwina Currie to make comments like that especially as she has been a former health minister- she should know better.” We think she should know better too.
Das continued, “For somebody in her position to make these comments is dangerous, rather than worrying about what message plus-size models are sending out, she should worry about what her comments are doing.”
It’s awesome that people are deciding not to celebrate Graham’s achievement, but it’s even better that Das is standing up curvy models. Nice clap back Das.
