The Teen Who Was Body Shamed By a Dillard’s Employee Is Now Modeling Prom Dresses

Remember when the lovely little story about a Dillard’s employee who body shamed a thirteen-year-old young woman in a red gown went viral? Well, here’s a VERY happy ending to that story.

Lexi Harris is throwing up the middle finger to the woman who thought she’d look better in her formal dress if she wore Spanx underneath. She’s now modeling prom gowns for PromGirl, Seventeen reports. It’s a website for teens to get their hands on some glittery gowns without the fun experience of dealing with helpful dressing room attendants with unwanted opinions, so, AWESOME. Harris is being featured as part of the site’s “Real Girl” campaign, which celebrates diversity in the prom-osphere.

Meet another one of our #PGrealgirls, Lexi! ❤️ Her word of advice to girls everywhere is “Don’t try to change yourself to fit someone else’s needs!” and Lexi, WE agree! #Confident #innerbeauty #Celebrate #Prom2k16

At thirteen, Harris is a body positive gem wise beyond her years. On the campaign, she told Seventeen, “I’m trying to show other girls that you don’t have to be this standard of perfect beauty. You can have curves, or you can be a little short. You don’t have to be this perfect height or the perfect body type.” Break out the plastic tiara because we’ve got ourselves a future prom queen, folks.

We’re glad that at least SOMETHING good came out of Harris’ nightmare of a shopping experience. Happy Friday to all.
