Women Are Calling Out School Dress Codes for Unfairly Targeting Women of Color With Curves

We already knew that dress codes can be straight up insane. We get it. Schools don’t want there to be any sort of curvy “distractions” to the boys innocently trying to learn geometry. The obvious answer is to make every female cover herself up from ankles to neck so boys resist the urge to take their pants off. It makes sense because yoga pants and spaghetti straps pose serious threats, right? Right.

Today, RunwayRiot discovered these noble women on Twitter who are recalling their schools’ dress codes and the times they felt discriminated against for being black women with curves just trying to get through a day of learning. Their stories are downright cringeworthy, and we thought the issue was one worthy of your attention.

Check out what they’re saying below and prepare to resist the urge to light somebody’s house on fire.

For all the black girls out there, have you’ve ever been dress coded at school for no apparent reason? Quote this and share your story.

Sometimes I’ll wear jeans with holes in them & no one will say anything to me but if a black girl with thick thighs does it, it’s a problem.

@tyriquex We got told at school that skinny girls are allowed to wear tight dresses but curvy girls can’t because they’ll get stared at more

@tyriquex would get warnings and be told to change when wearing shorts that would hit our knees

@tyriquex They basically told us that curvy bodies are “unprofessional”

@tyriquex we got banned from wearing yoga pants to school. Of course it wasnt an issue until thicker girls started wearing them.

@tyriquex long story short I got coded she didn’t and I got told that my breast were poking out too much ????????????????????

— HIVEASF (@hiveasf) January 15, 2016
