Good thing it’s Wednesday, because we discovered our newest #WomanCrushWednesday, Iskra Lawrence. This beauty is the managing editor of Runway Riot, a “fashion, style, and beauty site for women of all sizes,” and is one of the most successful curvier models in the world. In a time where young women are limited by many aspects, Iskra manages to land hot gigs with big time names, such as Aerie, and partners with organizations like NEDA (National Eating Disorder Association), proving the sky truly is the limit. Her attitude and inspirational work with changing the face of fashion are enough to cause a major RIOT in the industry, and we’re glad we got to know more about this superwoman!
-Runway Riot is a great concept; what inspired you to start the site?
I felt it was time to create an all inclusive site to celebrate all that all women are beautiful. I myself had nowhere to go online where I see women of my size or shape modeling or talking about fashion, beauty and body image. You either find ‘straight size’ bloggers or sites featuring size 2 models or plus-size sites featuring models 14 or over – nothing that tries to represent everyone and anything in between these two sizes.
-As a successful woman, what is the one thing you could go back and tell your teenage self?
Never compare yourself to anyone else. Only you can be you and that is your magic power.
-What your hopes/future plans for Runway Riot?
That it’s a home for all women, that they come to be inspired and shop. Ideally, I would like it to become a community where women empower each other and we take back fashion from being so exclusive.
-What trend do you hope stays around forever or makes a comeback?
I hope that crop tops stay forever because any women no matter what shape or size can rock a crop.
-Who is your favorite social media personality?
@Nourishandeat I love the body and mental health positivity she talks about and the posts she shares are very inspiring -you feel good going through her Instagram.
-Whats the coolest beauty/fashion advice you’ve been given recently?
Remove your makeup with baby shampoo as it’s great for sensitive skin and it’s very effective for removing even mascara.
-What is one thing that people would be surprised to hear?
I have a phobia of balloons.
-Any cool places you’re traveling to soon/any destinations you’re hoping to visit?
I’m off to Costa Rica in January to shoot the new Aerie Summer swim campaign.
-What is your biggest tip for young women hoping to get into the fashion and media industry?
Never give up. If you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will…so keep on doing your best and being you.
-Any UsTrendy designers/looks you’re really digging at the moment?
The Vestry have some sexy dresses perfect for a night out and cute designer inspired handbags.
