Jennette McCurdy Shares Disturbing Photo to Address the Dangers of Retouching

Actress Jenette McCurdy is clearly over the abuse of Photoshop and any other retouching app you might see in a ‘How to Take a Selfie 101’ video for Vogue. To address her frustrations, McCurdy posted this overly retouched and shocking picture to Instagram with a message on embracing ‘flaws’ that feels like fuzzy slippers to the heart. We’re pretty sure even Barbie would be jealous of that Photoshopped waist, though.

Hey guys – can we stop using facetune and other flaw-correcting apps to extremes? Instead of camouflaging our flaws and feeling ashamed, let’s embrace our strengths and feel empowered. Comment on this post with three things you love about yourself. #selflove

The majority of her followers appreciated the feel good message and shot of self love, and shared the three things they love most about their bods.  But some were disturbed by the image, and a few were apparently too busy to read the caption and thought McCurdy wanted to look this way. @kashmoneyremix said “So tripped out by this..” and @andrew_sutedjo commented “Please don’t do this anymore. You don’t need it.”

Even though this picture will potentially haunt our dreams, we’re totally here for this message on unrealistic body standards and laying off the digital surgery tools. Thanks for giving us a reason to like a former Nickelodeon child star, McCurdy.
