This week, human punchline Justin Bieber posted a photo of a beautiful girl on Instagram with the caption “OH MY GOD WHO IS THIS?”
People’s psyched, Us Weekly’s psyched. The Daily Mail is so psyched they called it romantic and ran her name, her home address, and her thing with the police. Turns out, she’s 17 years old. But isn’t he romantic? They think so.
They would guess that the fact that an unknown beauty could attract Justin Bieber with just a selfie is luckier than Tiny Tim getting a shiny new ham. But now that he let his scrillion followers know who she was, she’s getting treated to the headiest debate since Inherit the Wind on her Instagram.
Stuff like this: “and you think selena,” “girl you so simple in a pretty way,” and “Why Justin? You dont deserve him.”
Now, she’s swallowed up in the firestorm of Beliebers who have to hash out whether or not she’s ridiculously good looking enough for Bieber’s attention. By questioning if she’s bae enough to meet Bieber’s standards, it puts her at the center of some pretty terrifying objectification at insane levels. And it’s a fairy tale? Some women on social media court this sort of thing as a hobby, but that’s not exactly the kind of “Am I Pretty or Am I Ugly?” feedback she was seeking. Here’s this for an amazement, she probably didn’t ask for the attention, and on her Instagram, she’s said she doesn’t “know what to do with all of this.” In our optimism we’d love to interpret bringing a 17-year-old into this mess is proof that love is real, but nope.
Arguably she’s in the public eye, but she didn’t ask you to critique her face, so you can leave her alone now.
