I’m all about trying fun makeup. Last week, I tried to get the eye makeup debuted at the SS16 Margiela show because why not? It was metallic and funky, and I wanted to be in on the trend even if it meant only wearing it to clean my apartment. And the Chanel airlines show this past week debuted even more wacky inspiration—blue eye shadow meant to make you look like some sort of fancy bandit. Cool. So, I decided to give this one a shot so you could see what DIY Chanel x Avatar eye makeup looks like on your average homegirl.
To get the look I used Revlon’s Photoready eye shadow palette in avant-garde (fitting, I know). This one might seem hard to mess up, but making the shadow look even to create a blue eye mask can be surprisingly tricky. This look required me to really cake on the eye shadow and go back around the blue stripe with a makeup remover cloth to make the lines look smooth. Chanel airport pro tip: there’s no such thing as too many layers of blue eye shadow.
For the most part, I stuck with one soft blue, but I added in accents of darker navy around the bridge of the nose, plus some white shadow to highlight the corners of my eyes.
I felt pretty ridiculous, like I was trying to be a Smurf for Halloween but had to head to the party before I could finish my makeup. Even if I did look like a Chanel model, this is one makeup look I wouldn’t rock outside of a Bushwick warehouse rave.
I don’t think Karl will be asking me to pick him up from the Chanel airport anytime soon, and I’m totally okay with that.
