Beauty In The Kitchen with Heather Marianna

I am all about interviewing “Girl Bosses.” They take a hold of their life and really run with it. I was excited for the opportunity to interview You Tube star, Heather Marianna.   She is known for her sassy DIY beauty videos using common kitchen ingredients. Seen by over 3 million fans she also has a all-natural pampering skincare line, Beauty Kitchen. Beauty Kitchen’s whimsical offerings include red-wine infused eye gel pads, lip masks, chocolate-infused sugar scrub, pumpkin caramel latte lotion and more. If you follow our Instagram you saw me do an unpacking InstaLive of her delectable goodies.
What makes Heather the ultimate entrepreneur is how involved she is in giving back to the community donating money, her time and products to organizations including:  St Jude’s, LGBT Teen Center of LA, Nevada Homeless Youth and even donates a portion of her pet product sales to local non-kill animal shelters in the Las Vegas area.
We got the real scoop on how she started and even squeezed out a secret!

How did you get started as a on-air DIY beauty girl?

I started my you tube channel in July 2013 as a way to connect with people interested in learning DIY all-natural beauty recipes that mimic the expensive spa treatments people pay hundreds of dollars for! It was a quick hit and I gained a lot of views and quickly realized there was a need for a savvy take on being spa fabulous without the spa prices.

What inspires you daily?

My desire to succeed is what inspires me daily.  It’s easy to have a passionate drive for business when you are doing something you love. I feel really fortunate that I have a business where I am able to hire hard-working people and help them provide an income for their families while maintaining a fun working environment. At Beauty Kitchen, we are a team. Everyone is a key player in the company being successful.

What are 3 words to describe your personality?

Honest, generous and creative.

Do you have a daily beauty item you use?

I absolutely use Beauty Kitchen’s Bye Bye Cellulite scrub. It not only keeps my skin soft but helps stimulate circulation to battle cellulite.  I swear by it!

What are the very first steps you took to start your career/business?

Prior to starting my YouTube channel, I enrolled in Marki Costello’s hosting school in Los Angeles. You may know her from her own hit reality show on E! I knew I needed some on-camera training and speaking tips if I wanted to have a successful channel. I rented an apartment in LA, and drove back and forth every single week for class (it sucked and it was a huge sacrifice but I knew it would one day be worth it. At this point in my career, I have done over 25 national news segments and have over 3 million views on a lot of my YouTube videos. Marki says I am one of her success stories! Regardless your field, the best business advice I can give to anyone is to plan!  Think of what your goal is and put a plan  together with realistic steps to obtain your goal.  If you believe it, you can achieve it!

How would you describe your personal style?

I am either in a hoodie dressed totally down or over-the-top glam.  There’s no in between. 😉

How would you describe yourself in business vs. your personal life?

I have no personal life LOL. When you’re a girl boss and you’re building a company, it tends to require a lot of time. Don’t get me wrong I have a lot of fun with my friends who often accompany me to the fabulous events Beauty Kitchen is a part of (Oscars, Golden Globes, Grammys, TV segments) but I am often asleep by 10 pm and at the gym by 5 am. I guess I’ve mastered the art of intertwining both my business and personal life.  When I’m not working, I do enjoy reading, hanging out with my dogs and watching reality TV.

What would be your soundtrack to life?

Natasha Beddingfield – “Unwritten”

Favorite cocktail/dessert?

Kim Crawford Sav Blanc! I will admit I also love some Baileys and coffee but it’s so fattening so I try not to indulge much.

What do you do before you go to sleep?

I always watch TV while relaxing in my bath. I also like to fall asleep with one of Beauty Kitchens sheet masks on.

What do you do first thing in the morning?

Drink coffee, walk my dogs and pack my lunch for the day (I am really into meal prepping!)

Biggest fear?

Dying alone……. Who doesn’t want that special person around? Or dying alone with 34 dogs.

What are 2 items you always have with you?

Beauty Kitchen Chap Stick and a bottle of water! Always!

Are you currently reading or listening to anything right now, if yes what?

I am reading Khloe Kardashian’s “Strong Looks Better Naked.” I love it. I am also listening to the “48 Laws Of Power.” I highly recommend it.

What is the best part of your job?

Being creative is the best part of my job. I love creating new products and staying on top of trends. I love coming into my office and knowing it all started with a dream of mine that I turned into a reality within four years.

Do you have a guilty pleasure?

YES THE NEW BACHELOR!!!!! I’m obsessed and can’t wait to watch it every week! I am team corin, she’s crazy and funny. I usually watch it in the mornings after it airs while I shower and get ready for work. I seriously can’t get enough.

Best way you chill out?

Listening to my sound machine reading with the three dogs in bed.

Give us 1 secret about yourself?

I am obsessed with the bottoms of my feet being white, I spray tan with socks on and usually have a weird sock line
