Tom Ford Adds to Growing Roster of Designers that Refuse to Dress Our New First Lady

Whether Tom Ford was being political in his decision not to cross fashion paths with Melania Trump or not – the Italian designer has made it clear that our new First Lady is not “his image.” Adding himself to the list of “designers who refuse to dress First Lady Melania Trump.”

“Given this President’s beliefs about ‘made in America’ I think the clothes they wear should be made in America” says Ford during Elle interview. “I think that whoever is the President, or the First Lady, should be wearing clothes at a price point that are accessible to most Americans, and wearing clothes made in America.”

Ford went on to mention that his collections are extremely expensive and he believes that most women and men in our country can’t relate to that, and that the First Lady and President should be representing all people of the nation.

Although being asked to dress the First Lady for the inauguration is an honor, there is a heavy list of iconic designers along with Tom Ford that have already opted out of any future fashion collaborations with Melania Trump including Marc Jacobs, Derek Lam, Rebecca Minkoff, Phillip Lim, and Timo Weiland. Though some of these name have already dressed former First Lady Michelle Obama, they are not particularly waiting at the edge of their seat for this opportunity.

On the flip side, there are some supportive designers like Dolce & Gabbana and Calvin Klein who have taken an interest in attiring Melania for the inauguration.

As we’ve been patiently waiting to see what Melania would step out in on February 20th, Donald Trump also hasn’t failed to mention Tom Ford in his Fox & Friends appearance stating that Melania “doesn’t like his designs and he was never asked to dress her.”

After a long discrepancy of who will and who won’t dress Melania, the day is finally amongst us to see what our new First Lady will wear for her opening day in office. Well America, it looks like Ralph Lauren has dressed his fifth First Lady and decided to take one for team USA.
