What female doesn’t love to take care of their skin? There is a vast marketplace out there for skin care products, and we eat it up. We love to have soft, supple skin and if we can smell good while rocking good skin, it’s even better! Unfortunately, in a lot of those lovely purple and blue lotions hides ingredients that have no reason to be on your skin. Sure that bright pink lotion that smells like cotton candy seems attractive, but if you look at the list of ingredients do you even know what half of them are? Better yet, can you pronounce half of the ingredients? In a lot of cases, the answer is probably no.

Believe me, it’s OK if you have an addiction to body care products. I was once hooked as well, and it wasn’t until I got diagnosed with skin cancer that I started to look into everything that I was putting in my body and on my skin. Your skin is porous, so whatever you put on will absorb into you. Also, it is your body’s largest organ, so it makes sense to watch what you put on your skin. One of the best ways to eliminate a lot of the toxic chemicals that are harmful to your body is to purchase natural (organic if possible) skin care products, or make your own.

A lot of you may think that making your own body care products is too hard and too time consuming, but it isn’t. It can be, don’t get me wrong, but you have the control here. You have the power to choose which route you want to take. Here are some reasons why you should look into DIY skin care.

• You know what’s going into your creation, so there are no surprises.
• Your ingredients will be fresh, so there will be no need for synthetic preservatives.
• You have complete control, so that means you can customize it to your liking.
• You can trust your creation because YOU made it.
• It’s fun, creative, and you will have a sense of achievement.
