Tanya Burr just uploaded a Q&A video on her YouTube channel, but it’s titled, “We need to talk about body confidence…”
The British author and fashion and beauty vlogger answers a question she was asked about her tips for body confidence. Start watching at 3:33.
Burr is right: We need to talk about body confidence.
In less than 12 minutes, she talks about what body confidence means to her.
“Body confidence, for me, is accepting your body and not trying to be like someone else. And not looking at pictures of someone and thinking, ‘Oh, why don’t I look like that?’”
Some people are all happy-go-lucky about body positivity, which is great. But Burr, who calls herself naturally curvy, gets real about how sometimes you just don’t love all parts of your body equally.
“There are just some things you can’t change about your body or your body shape, and that’s fine. You just need to accept it and embrace it. And there are totally things that I don’t like about my body, but I’ve found since I’ve stopped kind of hating those things, I’ve felt so much better.”
We can all list things that we don’t like about our bodies. That’s easy. The hard part is accepting that those things are what make us us. They don’t define us, but spending so much time hating parts of your body? That’s not OK. Use that time to start finding ways to love yourself.
“I’m not saying you’re going to love every single inch of your body, that might take years for you to get to that stage. But if there are things that you don’t love, just be a more blasé about it.”
I’ve always admired Burr’s body shape, and hearing her speak about body confidence with such a chill attitude was refreshing.
She understands that it’s something everyone works on throughout their lives, but that it shouldn’t take over someone’s life.
With more than 3 million subscribers to her YouTube channel, I hope her body confidence message will spread to those who may need to hear it the most.
