Body image and wellness is different for everyone. Sisters Mara Schiavocampo and Pia Schiavo-Campo are straight up goals in proving that wellness is an overall balance, and we could not be more impressed.
The sisters appeared on Good Morning America today to show that empowerment comes in all shapes and sizes, and to share their story of finding acceptance. While Mara decided to lose weight through diet and exercise as chronicled in her book “Thinspired” her sister chose to keep and love her 230 pound frame but take better care of herself, as she writes in her book “Chronicles of A Mixed Fat Chick.”
It’s amazing to see these two sisters on a journey of self-acceptance together, and finding it in different ways. The sisters said on Good Morning America, “Like so many women, our path to self-love and acceptance has been a rocky one. We’ve both gone through more than our fair share of fad diets and periods of feeling bad about ourselves. But we’ve come out of that journey stronger and happier than ever. Here are some of the ways we stay focused on body positivity and true self-care.”
Mara shared her best advice saying, “Be kind to yourself. Tend to your true needs. When you’re tired, rest. When you’re sad, cry. When you’re thirsty, drink. Taking care of yourself makes you feel and look better” while Pia’s best advice was, “Stay away from despair and compare, and focus on yourself. We’re all different, and what one body needs is very different from what another body needs. You have to seek your own happy place.” And my personal favorite, Pia’s personal mantra, and something we all could remind ourselves of daily, ““I am enough.” No matter where you are, by the very virtue of your existence and humanity, you are enough.”
