Have you been watching these videos of makeup and beauty vloggers layering on an insane amount of product?
A popular one is of a YouTuber painting her nails with more than 100 coats of nail polish. It looks pretty mesmerizing.
Recently, a video of a YouTuber applying 100 layers of liquid lipsticks has been going around. Could you imagine how dry and heavy your lips would feel?
But this weird layering trend isn’t new. I’m not a big fan of thick, spider-y lashes, but I think that’s what this girl’s lashes must’ve felt like when she applied 100 coats of mascara. Can you imagine? I can barely handle more than two layers.
If you thought 100 layers was drastic, watch this video of a model with 365 layers of makeup on her face.
What’s the deal with using all these layers of products all at once? It’s a waste of product and doesn’t seem like a great idea for your skin.
Challenge videos have been all over YouTube lately, so I understand how they’re fun to watch and I’m sure fun to record. I guess all challenge videos are a bit wasteful in terms of products, so layering is no different.
But to me, the difference between a “full face with only highlighters” challenge video and a “100 layers of liquid lipstick” video is that putting makeup on your whole face using only highlighters seems more like a real challenge than putting on 100 layers of liquid lipstick to just your lips. In the end, the highlighters all of your face will look pretty cool, but the liquid lipstick on just your lips will probably feel uncomfortable.
I just don’t see the end goal of it besides just being able to stack 100 layers of product on your face. Is this what our Sephora addictions have come to?
