Hey minimalist queen, your Pinterest closet is about to be your closet IRL with the help of Uniqlo. Commence freak out.
Consider Christophe Lemaire your fashion Moses because he is guiding the way to the promised land. Lemaire hails from a background with Hermès, Saint Laurent, and Thierry Mugler (swoon), but his new standing gig is with Japanese prep-pop retailer Uniqlo.
His previous line with Uniqlo did so well that they decided to bring him on to continue his own line, Uniqlo U. This is not your typical collab that is going to disappear in a few weeks. This is a Jay-Z + Kanye kind of love; everlasting and spanning the globe. Lemaire is getting his own atelier in Paris for the line where he is dead set on producing clothing that is both fashionable and affordable.
What exactly is Lemaire going for? “Elevated basics, I call them,” said Lemaire. “Our ambition is to fill the gap between what’s fashion and what’s ‘normal.’ How do you make [fashion] super normal but cool and desirable?”
Questions that need answers, Christophe. He also noted that his luxury aesthetic would not be lost.
“Uniqlo is a huge brand with a certain way of working…but, to be honest, I’ve been quite surprised that I haven’t had to make such compromises,” said Lemaire. “They’re both trying to bring simplicity with the best quality. The knitwear at Uniqlo is not that far off from Hermès.”
Chic, luxe, and affordable? We are so ready for this line in October. Watch the throne.
