There seems to be this crazy misconception that body positivity cannot include fitness. That just seems silly. The whole point of body-positivity is being positive about your body! That can include loving your stretch marks just as much as you love your biceps.
We totally appreciated Tess’ take down of a supposedly body-posi supporter, but we want to make sure that everyone recognizes that body-positivity is not just for the ladies who are reappropriating words like big, thick, and fat.
You can be body-positive about yourself and others, but still go for runs every day. You can be a BoPo warrior and do yoga because you love the way your body is becoming more flexible. Self-love is not about dissing exercise, but making sure that no one feels dissed whether they love to exercise or not.
If you want a six pack, go for it! It is your home while you get to spend time here making an imprint with every step you take. The only person who gets to decide what is best for your body is YOU.
So, to the fit chicks who are putting in work at the gym, we salute you. You found a way to take care of your body and show it some respect. To the thick chicks who may not be, we hope you looked in the mirror today and told yourself that you are beautiful; show your body some respect too. These are not binary categories. There are so many ways to be fit, thin, fat, thick, and everything in between!
It’s our job to make sure that all of you see yourselves represented here because there are a million different ways to be beautiful.
