Often times when we hear celebrities talk about body image, you either hear them say something completely made up from their publicist about their extensive workout and eating routine, or they kind of shrug it off because it’s awkward subject for them to talk about publicly. And while a lot of celebrities are very public on social media platforms, it’s a rarity to get a glimpse of who they are behind closed doors and how they feel about themselves.
All of this made it even more refreshing when I read Adrienne Moore’s interview on Fusion in which she talked about loving her body and changing the way she thinks about negative comments. “I’ve learned to be less judgmental of myself. I realized the judgements that I had was what I thought people would be saying and thinking. I can’t control what people may be thinking. That has made me be kinder to myself. I used to do this thing, I need to get back into it, but I would stand in the mirror and touch my body and I would squeeze my fat, you know all the areas that you wish you didn’t have, and I would say, I love it, I love it, I love it. I think if you are kinder to yourself with where you are, then if there is a change then you’re not hard on yourself when the change happens. You’re like that’s okay, because I still love it whether I’m a size 18, or a size 14, or a size 8. It’s about loving yourself where you are,” said Moore.
When Adrienne talked about standing in the mirror and repeating to herself that she loves everything about her body, it felt so visceral, and made me want to try it out for myself. There’s no better time spent than time spent loving our bodies.
