Ashley Graham is continuously outspoken about her place in the fashion industry, and on top of that, she’s super witty even though people keep asking her the same old questions of how she can possibly be curvy, happy with herself and her body, and make it in the fashion world.
Entertainment Tonight recently interviewed Ashley Graham, and of course they asked about her stance on being called curvy, and how she views herself in the modeling world. Things got particularly interesting when she said, “I think I was about 18 years old, and I already had an agent tell me that I needed to lose weight, and I had clients tell me I needed to lose weight. So in that moment, I had to start doing my affirmations. I started going to the gym more, I started changing my eating habits, and all of sudden, it all came together and I am still just as curvy and cute and sexy as I was then. It is just my mind [that has] changed.”
It’s that mindset that makes Ashley such a boss, and someone who we all could take a few tips from because society will have you to believe that if you don’t fit into a certain mold that you’ll never find that happiness and balance in life. At the end of the day, Ashley is a beautiful woman, and a bomb model who shouldn’t have to explain how she gets her confidence in every interview.
And her relationship with food is something she says is nothing to lose sleep over. “It’s one of those things where my relationship with food is my own journey, like every other woman that I know, and it’s a matter of mapping it out for myself and not being discouraged.” It’s not a compliment to continue to ask women how it’s possible for them to feel good about themselves–it’s assuming that women don’t have value and the right to believe in themselves despite what others say.
