When Jason Wu released the news this week that he’s launching a sister line called Grey by Jason Wu with one of his best friends Diane Kruger, we thought what a rock solid idea. We wish that designers would collaborate with more curvy girls and use that perspective to create high-end clothing. In his post about his new venture Wu said on Instagram, “I often look to my friends for inspiration, and I created this collection for women who look for beautifully made, well considered clothes that have a sense of whimsy and uncomplicated chic that suit their everyday lives.” How cool would it be if a designer had that same thought about a curvy woman’s closet? It would be beyond our wildest dreams. So, we made a list of designers we think should start logging hang time with some of our favorite style mavens to get inspired and create collections stat.
Check out what we believe our matches made in heaven.
Mary Katrantzou with Amarachi Ukachu
For obvious reasons, both of these ladies LOVE, breathe and die by prints so it would be a match made in heaven. Mary Katrantzou has taken graphic prints from being kitschy to being a mainstream staple, having her own successful line and frequently creating sportswear pieces with Adidas as well. These two need to meet.
Off White by Virgil Abloh with Georgina Burke
Virgil Abloah is a streetwear designer and Kanye West’s best friend; these two points of view wouldn’t automatically make you want to pair him with this carefree model, but there’s something about this pairing that we think could work. Opposites attract, and Georgina would bring a realistic appeal to his “edgy” collection.
Cushnie et Ochs and Precious Lee
This one we’re personally rooting for with everything we’ve got. How ideal would it be to see sexy cut out numbers on Precious? Cushnie makes the best bodysuits on the runway, and we can’t think of anyone more baetacular than Precious to rock them.
Chloé and Robyn Lawley
Robyn does a lot of swimwear ads, but we would love to see her in some of the simple, feminine looks that Care Waight Keller is famous for showing at Chloé shows. Her laugh in swimwear would easily translate to Chloe’s playfulness and sense of optimism in the duds.
Denise Bidot and Balmain
Olivier Rousteing is known to really push the boundaries on what is sexy on the runway. He loves a high slit, a tight skirt and anything see through. Denise obviously has the body to rock one of his looks, but most importantly: she has the ‘tude.
Philomena Kwao and Rosie Assoulin
Rosie Assoulin’s dresses are statement makers—and they always remind us of the dancing salsa woman emoji. Her designs are flawless and we’d basically wear any scraps she has leftover, but the only thing that we can think of that would elevate her brand is putting someone like Philomena Kwao in one of her gowns. Her luminous skin against the brightly colored gowns and that body too? You’re welcome Rosie.
Candice Huffine and Versace
We always love the sexiness that just oozes off of Candice, but we also can tell that she is willing to take risks, and try looks that everyone may not love. If she were to find a way into Donatella Versace’s empire, then they could both dream up sexy and cool dresses, and you know, not smoke and look good.
