Growing up my mom always put me in dresses and skirts, and I loved it. Years later, dresses and skirts is all I wear. This was fine, when I lived in the blistering oven, also known as Texas. I could totally get away with not wearing tights or hosiery, but my bare legs didn’t fly when I moved to New York and I was still wearing dresses in the middle of January.
In short, I had to step up my tights game. However, when you’re a flawless curvy woman of color, not so surprisingly, the options out there are as depressing as that time my grandma bought me the coolest sweater that was two-sizes too small. Depressing as in your options are jet black opaque tights, or ill-fitting off colored nude hosiery that runs as soon as you walk out the door.
Enter Nubian Skin, a lingerie and hosiery line of nude intimates that reflect all skin-tones. They’ve just dropped some serious game changing news: nude hosiery and tights for curvy women color. I think I hear Angels singing.
Founder, Ade Hassan, launched Nubian Skin in 2014, after becoming more frustrated with the lack of skin-tone diversity in nude underwear, because not everyone is beige. Hassan is encouraging women to embrace their curves and their color. Sticking to her ongoing mission to increase inclusivity to Nubian Skin, Hassan added Curve Hosiery.
Yes, a woman that understands that I’m still going to wear a dress in the winter but I’d like to stay warm, while avoiding the unwanted attention from strangers staring at my bare legs. Nubian Skin 15 Denier Curve, comes in four delicious sounding colors, Cafe Au Lait, Berry, Caramel and Cinnamon and in three sizes x-large, 2x-large and 3x-large. Bonus: the hosiery has anti-chafing panel (good bye chafed thighs), and an anti-roll waistband (no more awkwardly pulling up my tights in public). This is all I have ever asked for, comfortable tights.
I will finally be able to sit without the worry of not being able to get back up because my tights are too tight, or having to duck into a dingy corner in the subway station to stealthy pull up my tights that are now around my knees.
My immediate reaction: “Yas Queen” noticing that Bishamber Das, the first British Asian curvy model, was modeling for this campaign. Her dress is everything, her hair is everything, essentially her everything is everything. Bishamber is a perfect representation that this line is for a spectrum of women of color.
