If you were excited when Amy Schumer posted up on a stool to give us one of the best Pirelli calendar shots that ever blessed our youngish eyes, well, you’ll love what New Zealand fashion blogger Regina Alai is up to.
But seriously, did it hurt when you fell from heaven?
She’s created her own spin on the pin-up calendar using only local New Zealand, curvy women in sexy lingerie of their choice. She told the New Zealand Herald:
“The concept with having the ladies in lingerie was a nervous one, so I left the women to find lingerie from local retailers that they were comfortable wearing. A goal was to create an acknowledgment for females in New Zealand who don’t fit the generic model template.”
Cheers to that. One model, size 22 Samantha Whybrow, gave the lowdown on what the calendar meant to her:
“The reason I wanted to do it is I’ve always felt pretty invisible with regards to feeling attractive,” she explained. “Although I have always had great self-esteem there just hasn’t been the platform or recognition of the beauty of bigger girls in a way that is not sleazy.”
We know a thing or two about sleazy, and we’re still trying to get over Love‘s novel idea to use a fetish song for Ashley Graham’s video for their advent calendar. But we’ll let bygones be bygones. We’re thrilled to see a fashion blogger making waves in how women of larger sizes are viewed in lingerie, so major props for that.
Forget green juice, this calendar is the best way to start 2016.
